Kahlua Tres Leches Recipe

This Kahlua Tres Leches Recipe is perfect for a party, it has a strong kahlua and brandy flavor in addition to a cup of espresso, but trust me it’s really really delicious! We will make a very easy cake in a square bake pan. Let’s do it!

For Sponge Cake

8 eggs M
2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1.5 tbsp baking powder
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

For Tres Leches Topping

1 sweetened condensed milk, canned
1 evaporated milk, canned
1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
60 ml strong espresso
1/4 cup kahlua
1/2 cup brandy

For whipped cream

750 ml heavy whipping cream
3/4 cup confectioners sugar, sifted
1 tbsp coffee or espresso extract



Preheat oven at 220 degrees. First, we will make the sponge cake. You can do it two nights before, wrap and refrigerate. In the mixer, add the eggs and sugar to high velocity until fluffy.


Meanwhile, sift the flour and baking powder. Set aside.


Butter and flour a 26 cm square cake pan.


Lower the speed and add the flour and the baking powder by the spoonful. Slowly until mixture is incorporated, take care not to overbeat.


Bake for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out dry. Let cool and cover with plastic wrap until ready to assemble the cake.


To prepare tres leches topping: Just mix all the ingredients and set aside.


For the coffee whipped cream: 30 minutes before decorating the cake, freeze the mixing bowl.


Take the bowl out of the freezer and pour in the heavy whipping cream, sugar and coffee extract. Beat on high speed until cream forms peaks.


Cut the sponge cake in 3 levels, in a aluminium tray add a level of the sponge cake, pour the kahlua tres leches mixture and whipped cream on top. So on until finishing completely decorating the cake with whipped cream.


Dust the top with sifted cocoa powder.
