The Best Margarita Cake recipe! This cake is inspired by a margarita with authentic tequila, a touch of citrus and salt on top. 

The lemon butter frosting is absolutely delicious! For that adventurous palate!

1 cup plain greek yogurt
1 cup butter at room temperature
2 cups granulated sugar
3 eggs, separated
2 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
2 cups, all purpose flour, sifted.
1 tbsp lemon extract
1 tsp vanilla extract

For lemon butter frosting

4 cups powdered sugar, sifted.
1 cup butter at room temperature
1 tbsp lemon extract
Green food coloring

For lemon tequila syrup

1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup water
1/4 cup tequila
3 lemons, juice

For top

1 lemon, sliced
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp salt



Preheat the oven to 200 degrees, you need a mold of about 22 cm.


Beat the whites.


In the mixer, add the butter and sugar. Then one by one the yolks


Add the vanilla and lemon extracts.


Then add the greek yogurt.


Gradually add dry ingredients, tablespoon by tablespoon until completely incorporated.


Finally, at very low speed add the whites.


Bake for 40-45 minutes


For the syrup, boil the water with the sugar and lemon juice. Cool completely and add the tequila. Set aside.


For lemon butter frosting, only mix butter, powdered sugar, extracts and coloring in the mixer, for 8-10 mins


To assemble the cake: Trim cakes level if needed. Add syrup and then frosting to top of one round then top with second cake and frost top and sides of cake.


Mix salt and sugar. Sprinkle on top of the cake and decorate with fresh lemon.
